Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Courtney Patton, and I’m a singer, songwriter, mom and wife living in Stephenville, TX.
What’s new with the you and/or the band?
I’m writing songs to get ready for a new album. My husband, Jason Eady, and I are putting out an acoustic album of original songs in November.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Coffee, appreciation, and my family
What is something you hate, but you wished you loved and why?
I wish I loved flying. It terrifies me. But I love traveling. Some of my most precious memories with music have been overseas. I wish the fear of getting there and back didn’t take away from all my joy.
Most memorable MusicFest moment?
There are so many memorable MusicFest moments, but my favorite was getting a late night call (we’d gone in early that night) from Randy Rogers telling us Dean Dillon was playing in his room. That changed me.
Life is great. It’s hectic! We have three kids between us; a daughter in college in Washington D.C., and my two are 10 and almost 12. Being a mom is just as hectic and unpredictable as being on the road!
What artists influenced you growing up?
The artists that influenced me growing up were James Taylor, Carole King, Don Williams, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison. Quite diverse!
Who are you most excited to see at MusicFest this year?
If you created a slogan for life, what would it be?
Do what you love and everything else will work itself out.
Favorite song to sing along to while on the road?
Anything by Hall & Oates! It makes those late night drives bearable.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
I’ve been told I am some people’s spirit animal! Ha! Maybe I’m my own breed?? 🙂
What would you do if you had a working time machine?
If I had a working time machine, I’d go back and give my sister a ride home from a party she never made it home from. Don’t drink and drive, folks.
What is your favorite three-word sentence?
Love you most.
If they made a movie about your life, which actress would you want to play you?
What is something you do before taking the stage?
I want to be left alone to get in my head space. I still get nervous, so being alone to pace around is really important to me. Rarely happens.
If you could ask another artist any question, what would it be?
James Taylor – if my husband is cool with it, will you marry me??
Name one artist of any genre besides country that you are a fan of and tell us why?
I like so many different kinds of music. So I’m going to go with new ones! I LOVE how every genre of music is in retro mode right now. There are artists breaking out right now who have a sound that reminds you of the music you grew up listening. A guy that grabs me is The Weekend! And a group I just heard the first time this weekend was 21 Pilots! They reminded me of Radiohead but with 311 and Beastie Boys mixed in.
What makes you laugh out loud?
I laugh all the time! A good comedy, my kids, Adam Hood!
Fill in the blank: It’s not a party until…
…I GET THERE!!
