Discover the New Steamboat

Famous for Champagne Powder® snow and authentic Western hospitality, Steamboat is more than a Rocky Mountain resort town. Sure, you’ll find world-class groomers, cruisers, bumps, steeps, and legendary tree skiing on over 3,500 acres. But you’ll also meet some of the friendliest people and maybe even rub elbows with one of the 100 Olympians that call Ski Town, U.S.A.® home.

Snow piles up in abundance in the winter and January is historically one of the snowiest months, which gives MusicFest guests plenty of opportunities to enjoy the iconic Champagne Powder® snow. According to the Desert Research Institute, there is a good scientific basis behind the name. The storms that arrive in Steamboat travel through the Mojave Desert and have lower moisture content making it perfectly light and fluffy.

The history of skiing in Steamboat dates back to the 1800s when early settlers and ranchers strapped skis and snowshoes to their feet for easier transportation in the deep snow. This culture continues today with one of the largest winter sports clubs in the country and it is common for local kids to be on skis before they fully learn to walk. The genuine, warm hospitality in this mountain town is unparalleled, and we look  forward to sharing this deep-rooted heritage with guests who visit the Yampa Valley each year.

For a town whose roots are planted deeply in the past, we have one eye on the future and are stepping Full Steam Ahead into it. The resort has just completed a three-phase transformation, investing over $200M to improve the experience on mountain and in the base area. The revitalized Steamboat Square offers a new food and drink hall, skier services, stage and an ice rink, and the Mountain now boasts an additional 650 acres of expert and extreme terrain, a new learning facility and the longest and fastest 10-person gondola in the country. Check out Steamboat.com/FullSteamAhead for all details.

After enjoying your days of adventure on the mountain, refuel and recharge at one of Steamboat’s more than 100 bars and restaurants or reward your muscles with a soak in the hot springs. You’ll feel a million miles away from the fast pace of daily life in Steamboat but traveling here is a breeze with nonstop flights into Steamboat/Hayden (HDN) from 16 major airports including Dallas (DAL & DFW) and Houston (IAH).
